Living in Catford

The green places of Catford that your dog will love

Unfortunately, moving to London often means it can be difficult to keep a dog – London is not known for its plethora of green spaces! But in Catford, it is a different story entirely. Catford is surrounded by parks and lush green landscapes that is a haven for dogs! If you live in Catford and you are lucky enough to own a pup, you have much to chose from. This is by no means an extensive list, but here are some of our favourite green spaces surrounding the area.

Riverview Walk and River Pool Linear Park

Riverview Walk is a park around the diverted River Pool which is 5 km in length. The water channel has built-in planters which allows for a variety of vegetation to thrive. The landscape is made up of large areas of mown grassland and ornamental shrubs which are home to a range of flowers and plants. A fantastic large space to play catch with the dog on a Sunday afternoon.

Mountsfield Park

Mountsfield Park is a lovely green space in Catford. If you walk to the highest point of the park, you will be able to see for miles around to take in the lovely views of the city. Within the park itself, there is a football pitch, tennis courts, a beautiful ornamental garden and a bowling green.

Blythe Hill Fields

Blythe Hill Fields is an expanse of elevated, open land which has spectacular panoramic views over Surrey, Canary Wharf, The City and Kent. It is a great London viewing spot and popular for picnics in the summer and sledging in the winter! There are often fitness groups that gather here for boot camps and the park has recently had a new addition of a children’s playground.

Ladywell Fields

Arguably one of the most beautiful parks around the Catford area, Ladywell Fields draws people in from all over Surrey. It has a vast open landscape with a built in river channel snaking through the centre. The footbridges, flowers and pools provide an idyllic backdrop to your walks. Trees line the perimeter of the park and wildflowers are speckled all across the area which brings a magnitude of colour to the scene. Stop off at the newly opened cafe for some light refreshments before heading home.

Ravensbourne Park Gardens

A small park tucked away in the residential area near St. Dunstan’s college. Even though it is small, the open space it has makes for a great place to throw a ball around for the dogs. The park is very pretty with high trees lining the pathway to allow some shade during the summer months. A great park for picnics and a great place for stargazing in the evening.

So to sum up, Catford is a very lucky town to be completely surrounded by parks, green spaces and fields, which is perfect for a spot of dog walking. If like me, you’ve been battling the pros and cons of getting a dog with your other half, the parks in this area will surely tip the argument in your favour!
