We have completed the construction of 104 new apartments for Metropolitan Housing Trust on an infill site site at Barrington Road, Brixton, adjoining the Loughborough Estate.

This residential development is aid out over three blocks varying in height from 5 – 8 storeys. 23 units will be for affordable rent with the remainder available as shared ownership.

The residential units have been designed and constructed in compliance with the following standards:

  • Current London Housing Design Guide
  • Current London Plan Minimum Space Standards
  • Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4
  • Secured by Design
  • NHBC Technical Standards

The Barrington project is designed to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4. In accordance with Lambeth Borough Energy Strategy. The project also incorporates a communal heating system, combined heat and power unit, and roof mounted photovoltaic panels. The energy savings from the output from the CHP and rooftop renewables are credited to each individual tenancy as a discount off their annual service charge.

The site at Barrington, as at all of our projects, is registered with the Considerate Constructors Programme, and as part of our obligations under the Code for Sustainable Homes, we targeted site performance well in excess of that demanded by CC. All our development procedures are governed by our Environmental Policies and Procedures as part of our ISO:14001 accreditation. We have robust procedures in place for every step of the design and build process, from initial site appraisal and environmental risk assessment, through sustainable building design to construction stage management planning and control.
