Mitcham: A weekend itinerary

Moving to Mitcham

Moving to a new district of London can be a bit daunting if you don’t know the area, but it shouldn’t be if you do a little research! It is always a good idea to test the water before you dive in head first!

With speedy connections into Central London, affordable housing and a backdrop of Surrey’s rolling countryside, it’s no wonder why Mitcham is on the rise for couples and young families. The town itself caters to most needs with an array of shops, lots of outdoor spaces and plenty of proper British pubs to choose from.

We’ve put together a short guide which if you follow, will be a great introduction to get to know the area.

Saturday

Morning:

Every Londoners’ favourite past-time, brunch! In Mitcham, the place to go is The Mabel. Serving everything from the classic poached egg dishes, to healthy buddha bowls, to decadent french toast topped with berries. Easily located by following the smell of freshly baked pastries drifting down the high street.

Afternoon:

After filling up your bellies, have a wander down to the town centre. Mitcham town hosts shops for every need, from your staple supermarkets like Morrisons to cute little florists like the Bouquet Shop. Nestled between the high street stores lie a variety of charity shops for those that love a bargain! And if you have (or are expecting) a little family soon, make sure you head to Be Unique, a kids clothing store that sells the most adorable children’s accessories!

Evening:

For the evening, head to one of the most popular places on a Saturday night – The Ravensbury. It has a vast menu of authentic Indian cuisine which is always a hit with the locals. But it’s not just the food that draws people in. They have a great bar which really comes alive at the weekends – a great selection of cocktails, music, wine and staff to keep you entertained into the early hours!

Sunday

Morning:

After a light breakfast, hop on the tube for a couple of minutes

Afternoon:

Bella Donna, one of Morden’s best kept secrets, is a proper authentic Italian restaurant and pizzeria. The staff are very welcoming and accommodating towards any dietary requirements and they do an amazing Calzone! We suggest picking your favourite pizza to go and heading towards Morden Hall Park – it’s on the way to Mitcham.

Morden Hall Park is a National Trust site that is so beautiful you will feel like you are in the middle of the English countryside and forget all about London. A great place to lay down a blanket, eat your pizza and relax taking in the surroundings. The park itself is 125 acres and has a small river running through the westside with the occasional bridge – a perfect picture opportunity!

It takes a total of 30 mins to reach Mitcham by foot, but we suggest taking a long walk around the park first, it really is a sight to take in!

Evening:

Once you’ve reached Mitcham, spend the evening in the cosy Mitcham Mint pub. It has a really nice, relaxed but slightly upmarket vibe and does a cracking Sunday roast dinner! The perfect way to end a weekend of exploring.
