So you’ve taken the plunge and moved to a brand new town. It can be a bit intimidating integrating into a new community, especially if you’re a little shy. However Catford is a great town with a lot of community involvement and many ways to make new friends. There is so much to choose from, from pub quizzes to life drawing clubs! Here’s a few ideas to start you off:

  1. Exercise / Gym Classes

Fitness classes are a great way to meet people in the area. You will generally start to see the same people turn up each week, so it can be an easy way to strike up that first conversation. Fit4less in Catford is a great (and very cheap!) gym with an amazing range of classes. They have everything from the popular Legs Bums & Tums class to Boxfit to Zumba. Have a look HERE for the full list.

  1. Catford Constitutional Club

The Catford Constitutional Club is a beloved traditional pub which has a special place in a lot of the local’s hearts. The owners are really good at organising events for the community such as regular pub quizzes, comedy nights and film evenings. Lots of opportunities to meet the locals!

  1. Catford South Local Assembly

One of the best ways to get involved in the local community is to head along to the Catford South Assembly which is held every couple of months. The assembly is open to anyone local who wants to get involved in organising town events, activities and discuss how to improve local life. It is a great way to meet new people, work with your neighbours and meet the owners of local businesses.

  1. Catford Book Club

Catford has a long standing book club which is a big hit with the town. The club’s focus is on fiction where members choose a new book each month – new members get to pick the book! The book club is friendly, intimate and very welcoming. So much so that after the discussion on this months book, everyone stays for a couple of drinks and a good old natter to catch up.

  1. Lewisham Healthy Walks

If you are lucky enough to live in Catford, you must make use of the surrounding green space – not every town in London is as lucky as Catford! Lewisham council fund the Lewisham Healthy Walks program which is a great way to meet locals, destress at the end of the week and discover new places in the area. They have a regular weekly walk which is led by trained volunteers and goes through various routes around the borough. The best bit – it’s free and anyone can just turn up. Have a look at the website HERE to see where the group are heading!
